Getting Started

MiniPwner Default Settings

User: root   Password: minipwner

Wireless (wlan0):

  • Set up as Access Point, SSID “TLINK”
  • No security
  • Static IP Address 192.168.50.1
  • Provides DHCP address in 192.168.50.x range

Wired (eth0)

  • Set up to request a DHCP address when connected
  • After booting, the blue LED is off when no eth0 connection, on if live link on ETH0

Basic Pen Test Preparation/Getting Started

  1. Charge the battery pack for 3.5 hours before first use.
  2. Power the router via the open usb port from the battery, laptop, or the wall outlet adapter.
  3. Once the router is booted (the blue LED stops flashing and goes off) connect your computer to the Wireless network named TOKI
  4. SSH to 192.168.50.1 (port 22)
  5. Login as root, password minipwner
  6. Plug the router into an ethernet network.  The blue LED should come on
  7. Through your SSH session on the wireless interface, inspect the network on the wired interface using tcpdump, nmap, etc.
  8. Recommended - Set a new root password using “passwd”
  9. Optional – Change the Wireless AP settings by editing /etc/config/wireless
  10. Optional – Change the Network settings by editing /etc/config/network
  11. Reboot after any changes using “reboot”
  12. If you cannot connect to the wireless interface, connect the wired interface to a network with DHCP and then use Nmap on your computer to scan for the device to figure out what IP it received (nmap –sS –p22 192.168.1.1-255) – replace 192.168.1 with your network.  Once you figure out the IP you can SSH to the wired interface.

I’ve run the router off the provided battery for over 5 hours, I’m not sure what the total battery life is before a recharge is needed.

Rebuilding

If your MiniPwner gets “bricked” (you can’t login to it anymore because the network configuration is bad or you lost the root password) you can restore it back to factory defaults using the following process:

(If you are leery of reflashing yourself send me an email and we'll work something out. - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )

#1 Boot the router in failsafe mode

             Power it off.

             Power it back on.

Immediately press and hold the reset button with a paperclip for about 5-10 seconds.

The LED will begin to quickly flash on and off.  This indicates the router is in failsafe mode.

It may take a few tries to get it to work.

Telnet to the box at 192.168.1.1  . No DHCP, so you need to manually configure your PC to the 192.168.1.2 or other IP at that subnet.
Get a "squash-sysupgrade.bin" from the snapshot or the formal backfire in future. Get a nc (netcat) for your PC.
At PC: cat XXX.bin | nc -l 3333     <- 3333 is an arbitrary port, any free port would be fine, something higher than 1000.
(or on windows, nc -p -p 3333 < XXXX.bin )
At the telnet dialog:   nc 192.168.1.2 3333 > /tmp/703.bin      Copy would be finished within 5 seconds. Too short or long is no good or meaning failure.  Will not quit itself, control-C to break after 5 seconds.
Telnet dialog:
    cd /tmp
    mtd -r write 703.bin firmware

Once it reboots, follow the steps under “Build It/Community Edition” on the MiniPwner.com website to restore the MiniPwner software and configuration.
